Maybe you are holding a team through another reorganization, a classroom through another hard year, or a community through grief that hasn't ended yet. Maybe you carry it in your shoulders, your jaw, or a breath that never quite reaches your belly.

Why Refugia?
In nature, a refugium is a quiet pocket where life holds on through a hard season, even when everything around it falls apart, and from which it later returns to the wider land. Refugia are rarely grand: a sheltered valley, a cool spring, a pocket of old forest the storm passed over.
You already know this feeling. The corner that held you together when the rest of the world was too much. The person, the group, the practice that kept something alive in you. That’s the work. Each refugium is a space of refuge, rooted in its own soil and belonging to its own people.
We help seed them, tend them as they take root, and then let them stand on their own. Beneath it all is kapwa, the Filipino understanding that the self is shared with others. Your healing is bound up with mine. So is our liberation.
What we do
A refugium doesn't force the forest back. It simply stays rooted, quietly, and life returns. We work the same way. We tend the people and partnerships already rooted in the places they want to renew, and we help them grow. We resource the people and partnerships where change actually happens through five pathways:
ROOTWORK
Learning journeys for leaders, facilitators, and space holders who carry healing-centered practice back into their teams, schools, and communities.
THRESHOLD
Open workshops, circles, and gatherings for anyone who wants to begin, wherever they are in their healing journey.
WELLSPRING
Leadership support for Indigenous youth leaders, beginning with Higaonon youth in Mindanao, rooted in their own knowledge and led on their own terms.
FIELD
Shared projects and collaborations with institutions and movements, bringing healing-centered practice into the places where leaders are formed.
COMMONS
Free tools, card decks, guides, and writing, openly shared for anyone to use in their own work and community.

Refugia is becoming a foundation
In 2027, Refugia will be established as a foundation in the Netherlands, guided by a Council of Elders and accountable first to the communities it serves. What we offer now continues as it grows.
